IDI Laboratory Once Again Earns
CAP Accreditation With Zero Deficiencies

Illinois Dermatology Institute is proud to announce that our laboratory has once again earned CAP Accreditation with zero deficiencies from the College of American Pathologists (CAP), following an on-site inspection completed on August 24, 2026. Achieving a zero-deficiency result reflects our laboratory’s continued commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and patient care.

This successful inspection marks another milestone in IDI’s ongoing dedication to excellence in laboratory medicine and reinforces the trust patients and providers place in our diagnostic services.

What CAP Accreditation Means

CAP Accreditation is widely recognized as one of the highest standards of laboratory quality and excellence. The accreditation process includes a comprehensive on-site review of laboratory records, equipment, staff qualifications, testing procedures, and safety practices by a team of practicing pathologists and laboratory professionals.

By once again achieving a zero-deficiency inspection result, IDI’s laboratory demonstrated that it continues to meet every CAP requirement without any identified gaps or deficiencies.

“The CAP is pleased to recognize Illinois Dermatology Institute as meeting the high standard set as part of the CAP’s Laboratory Accreditation Program,” said Earle S. Collum, MD, FCAP, chair of the CAP’s Council on Accreditation. “Illinois Dermatology Institute joins the thousands of others that are committed to raising the quality of laboratory services nationally and internationally.”

What This Means for Our Patients

For patients, this achievement provides continued confidence that when a biopsy or skin sample is evaluated through the IDI laboratory, it is reviewed under rigorous quality standards.

Our laboratory is once again recognized by CAP Accreditation, in addition to maintaining CLIA certification, and specializes in diagnosing melanocytic and non-melanocytic skin neoplasms, as well as lymphoid, soft tissue, and inflammatory skin disorders. These diagnostic services support patients across all 15 Illinois Dermatology Institute locations throughout Illinois and Indiana.

We are grateful to our laboratory team for their continued dedication, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering accurate, reliable diagnostic results every day.
