What are Treatments for Thin Lips?
Thin lips aren’t a medical abnormality – lips come in all shapes and sizes. However, some patients believe that their lips aren’t in proportion to the rest of their features, and feel that a slight volume enhancement could improve their appearance and make them feel more confident.
Moreover, lip enhancement is a great option for smoothing and mitigating the thin, vertical lines that sometimes form as we age. Even if you don’t necessarily want a plumper mouth, lip enhancement still offers fabulous results that can take years off of your appearance.
There are several options for creating a fuller mouth. Here are a few of the most common.
Dermal Fillers
The most popular type of lip enhancement is injectable treatments, also known as dermal fillers. These are hyaluronic acid gel solutions that are injected directly into the lips to create an improved contour and additional fullness. The results can last anywhere between three and six months, depending upon the brand of filler. This is the least invasive procedure for lip enhancement.
Fat Transfer
Another lip enhancement option is fat transfer, also known as autologous lip augmentation. In this process, fat cells are harvested from one part of the body – typically the abdomen – and used to add volume and contour to the lips. The purified fat cells offer semi-permanent results, often lasting up to 10 years. The full procedure, including the removal of fat, centrifugation process, and injections, takes approximately 90 minutes.
Lip Implants
Lip implants offer permanent lip enhancement unless the patient opts to remove them. Small silicone devices are pulled into the lip through a channel created by a surgical tool known as an alligator clamp and fitted into place before the incisions are sutured closed. This is an in-office procedure that takes roughly 30 minutes.
The team at IDI is dedicated to offering a full spectrum of cosmetic and dermatological services designed to help patients stay healthy, happy, and confident. If you think lip enhancement could be right for you, please contact us today for a consultation.
