If you’re considering rhinoplasty as an option to enhance your facial appearance but are unsure if you are a good candidate for the procedure, there’s good news: almost anyone can choose to have one based on their personal aesthetic goals. During the initial consultation, we will review your medical history to identify any underlying health conditions that may play a factor in your surgery. Rhinoplasties can correct various concerns associated with the appearance of your nose, including:

  • Large lumps on the bridge of the nose
  • Enlarged nasals
  • An oversized, bulbous nasal tip
  • Extra wide nostrils
  • Depressions
  • A nose that does not fit in with other facial features

Aside from the standard cosmetic aspects of rhinoplasty surgery, some patients move forward with surgery to help with breathing difficulties, correct birth defects, deformities, or injuries sustained to the nose.

Rhinoplasty Surgery: Planning is key to long-term success.

Before surgery, a physical examination is performed to ensure you are fit to proceed with surgery. Blood tests, medical history, and a thorough facial and nose examination are essential to ensuring you are in good health for rhinoplasty. Photographs will be taken to compare results post-surgery. Along with our team of expert professionals, you will discuss your goals and expectations.

During surgery, general anesthesia will be given. Rhinoplasties are often performed inside your nose and may require an external incision between your nostrils. It is likely that the bone and cartilage within your nose will be adjusted to fit your new aesthetic goals.

Swelling is the most common symptom post-surgery. It is recommended that you rest with your head above your chest to reduce bleeding and swelling. Internal dressings are placed during surgery and must be kept in for 1-7 days post-op.

In some cases, a splint is placed on the outside of the nose for added support. Most patients return to their regular work or school activities within two weeks. However, it is best to avoid heavy lifting, exercise, and other strenuous activities for at least a month. Although changes are noticed immediately after the nose is uncovered, final results are seen within six months to a year after surgery, when the swelling has decreased fully.
